Which mode to use
- Extract range — you know the page numbers you want. One chapter out of a book, the signature page from a contract, a section of a report. Produces a single file.
- Pick pages — you want a scattered selection and would rather click than type. Useful for pulling the pages that actually matter out of a long scan.
- Every page — one file per page. This is what you want when each page is a separate document, such as a batch of invoices scanned in one pass.
- Fixed chunks — divide into equal parts. Handy when a file is too large to email or upload and needs breaking into sections.
Page numbers refer to physical position
The numbers here count from the first sheet in the file, not from any number printed on the page. A report with an unnumbered cover and a contents page has its printed "page 1" at physical page three. Open the file and check before extracting, particularly with scanned documents where a blank separator sheet may have been captured.
Why the extracted file may not be much smaller
Extracting pages copies them along with the resources they use — embedded fonts, images, colour profiles. A single page from a large document can carry a surprising amount of that shared weight. The output is generally smaller than the original, but not proportionally: five pages from a hundred-page file will rarely be five percent of the size.
What is preserved
Text stays selectable, images keep their resolution, and nothing is re-compressed — the page content is copied rather than rebuilt. Page rotation and size are carried over per page. Form fields, annotations and digital signatures do not survive, because the output is a new document. Keep the original if any of those matter.
Protected documents
A PDF that requires a password to open cannot be read here, and will report an error. Remove the protection using the application you opened it with, then split the unprotected copy.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The file is read and split inside your browser, and the results save directly to your device. This matters for contracts, medical records and identity documents.
Does splitting change the original file?
No. The source file on your device is read only. Everything produced here is a new file.
Why did my browser block the downloads?
Splitting every page produces many files at once, and browsers ask permission before saving multiple downloads. Allow it when prompted, or use extract range to produce a single file instead.
How large a file can it handle?
There is no fixed limit, but everything is held in memory. Files over a few hundred megabytes may be slow on a phone and are better handled on a desktop.
